Westport Carbon Project

The Westport Carbon Project (WCP) was established to monetize the carbon emission reductions associated with the Westport 15L engine, the Cummins Westport ISL G and other natural gas engines developed with our OEM partners. The WCP enables customers to earn annual carbon rebate cheques for the natural gas vehicles in their fleet as of January 1, 2010.

The WCP has been registered to the Voluntary Carbon Market Standard (VCS) and is the first global VCS transportation project. It validates the emissions reduction benefits of natural gas engines and further supports the economic and environmental value proposition we offer to customers. Vehicles sold to fleet owners in various countries worldwide including the USA, Australia and Canada are included.

Emission reduction calculations are based on an UNFCC (United Nations Framework for Climate Change Convention) approved methodology. The project documents have been validated by SQS, a Swiss entity certified by UNFCCC for the validation of climate change projects in the transport field. Westport will submit an annual emissions report on behalf of its customers and upon successful verification, will return carbon rebate cheques to the owners of natural gas vehicles. All voluntary carbon units (VCU) are real, measurable, permanent, additional, conservative, independently verified, unique and transparent.
