LPG Advantages

Clean. Safe. Domestic.

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), also known as propane, is a domestically produced, well-established, clean-burning fuel. Using propane as a vehicle fuel increases energy security, provides convenience and performance benefits, and improves public health and the environment. When used as an on-road engine fuel, it is called propane autogas.

PROPANE AUTOGAS BENEFITS*

Economics: Save 40%

  • A gallon of propane autogas generally costs 40% less than a gallon of gasoline.
  • Switching to autogas can save fleets thousands of dollars annually over traditional gasoline or diesel fleets.

Emissions: 70% less smog

  • Compared to gasoline and diesel engines, propane autogas produces less harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Propane autogas shrinks your environmental footprint with 70% fewer smog-producing hydrocarbons, 50% less carbon monoxide, 20% less nitrogen oxide, and 12% less carbon dioxide.

Domestic Production: Made in North America

  • The abundant domestic supply of propane autogas reduces reliance on imported fuels, increases energy security and creates jobs.
  • Long-term supply has been greatly increased due to recent advances in drilling techniques.

Performance

  • Propane has the longest driving range of any alternative fuel option.
  • Due to higher octane ratings and efficient combustion, propane autogas exhibits outstanding performance.
  • Horsepower and torque of propane autogas is greater than or equal to its gasoline equivalent.
  • Propane enhances performance by providing a 104 octane rating, compared to regular gasoline's rating of 87.

Safety

  • Propane's low working pressure, narrow flammability range, higher ignition temperature and rigorous testing make it a very safe alternative fuel.
  • Propane vehicle tanks are 20 times more puncture resistant than gasoline or diesel tanks and are tested at up to four times their normal operating pressure.

Infrastructure

  • Propane autogas has the most developed refueling infrastructure of all alternative fuels in North America and the number of new stations is quickly expanding.
  • As a fleet operator, you have the flexibility to install your own refueling site.
