Our partnerships are key to Westport's success and development. These include two strategic joint ventures are Cummins Westport in North America and Weichai Westport in China, both with a focus on the medium- to heavy-duty markets.

Cummins Westport

Cummins Westport was formed in 2001 as a 50:50 joint venture between Cummins Inc. and Westport Innovations. Cummins Westport has approximately 60 employees. Engineering and customer support staff are located in Columbus, IN. Sales, marketing, and management staff are based in the USA and Canada.

Cummins Westport Inc. designs, engineers, and markets 6 to 12 litre spark-ignited automotive natural gas engines for commercial transportation applications such as truck and buses. Our dedicated 100% natural gas engines are manufactured by Cummins and available as a factory-direct option from leading truck and bus manufacturers (OEMs).

Weichai Westport

Weichai Westport Inc. (WWI) is a joint-venture between Westport Innovations Inc. (35%), Weichai Power Co. Ltd. (40%), China's largest heavy-duty engine manufacturer, and Hong Kong Petersen (CNG) Equipment Limited holding the remaining 25%.

WWI is based in China and occupies a 20,000m2 site with an annual production capacity of 20,000 engines. The site includes a research and development centre and testing facilities.Weichai Westport Inc. (WWI) develops, manufactures, and sells advanced natural gas engines (and relevant parts and kits) for use in automobiles, buses, heavy-duty trucks, marine applications and power generation.

WWI engines feature advanced engineering and reliable operation with emissions compliance to China III, China, IV or China V standards. The current engines are widely used in city bus, coach, and heavy-duty truck applications in China or exported to other regions globally.
