Westport's proprietary combustion technology is developed to manage the challenges unique to burning a directly-injected compressible (or gaseous) fuel. Westport is dedicated to solving the challenges inherent in managing and delivering compressible (or gaseous) fuels into internal combustion engines.

Westport has also developed proprietary methods for improved combustion controls using accelerometers. This helps combustion in many different applications including conventional spark-ignition engines and diesel-fuelled engines as well as the Westport 15L engine and fuel system and homogeneous-charge compression-ignition (HCCI) engines.
