Supplier Quality Engineer current position · Vancouver, BC, Canada
Westport has an Intermediate opening for a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer to focus on the manufacturing and supply quality of our high-pressure direct injection natural gas fuel system components. This role will be responsible for the evaluation, qualification and certification of potential Westport suppliers.

Key responsibilities of this position are:
  • Coach and lead suppliers in the development of quality systems and practices to support superior supplier performance, through utilization of APQP, and PPAP.
  • Establish the systems and metrics required to quantify supplier selection methods and quality improvement activities.
  • Coordinate and complete all tasks and documentation required for externally supplied component qualifications
  • Develop, review and update supplied component sampling plans
  • Provide leadership to team in the use of data analysis tools such as descriptive or inferential statistics and statistical analysis and the ability to communicate results across departments
  • Perform quality system, product and process audits at the supplier’s facilities, as required to maintain high levels of quality for incoming materials.
  • Lead cost reduction initiatives through alternative manufacturing processes, alternative suppliers or supplier agreements.
  • Review internal design specifications for manufacturability and provide input to design.
The ideal candidates possess a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering with four to seven plus years experience with precision components and or product manufacturing. You will have a strong background in the manufacturing of mechanical automotive components, ideally fuel systems. A CQE or CQA designation is desirable. Demonstrated product and process quality knowledge to QS9000 or ISO/TS-16949 guidelines, including APQP and PPAP is required. You must also have a strong ability to lead and coach suppliers in problem solving, root cause analysis and closure by effectively communicating within various levels of the organizations, both internal and external. Travel will be required to interface and maintain key relationships with prototype and production suppliers.

Vehicle Integration Engineer future position · Vancouver, BC, Canada

As a Vehicle Integration Engineer, you will apply your talents to developing and releasing vehicle integration specifications for LNG fuel systems. You will be instrumental in the integration and optimization of modules specific to our natural gas fuel system .

Some of you responsibilities will include the following:
  • Interact with customers and vehicle OEMs to understand requirements
  • Create shop orders where modules are assembled leading to the construction of a complete product
  • Ensure proper engineering Quality through the development of vehicle design technical profiles, code compliance, vehicle product resolution issues using the FIRG/PIRG process
  • Complete product specifications including vehicle systems schematics including hydraulic, coolant , fuel, LNG, CNG and electrical
  • Develop and analyze CAD models and release specifications.
  • Source aftermarket components such as tank brackets, hoses lines and fittings
  • Release fact sheets as needed to document analysis work and issue resolution
  • Trouble shoot the system and data acquisition responsibilities
  • Complete ECRs and contribute to product release structures and processes
  • Conduct analysis and report on test results for durability, and function
  • Manage technical specifications, DVP&R, FMEAs, and safety analyses
  • Work with development and manufacturing engineers to coordinate fabrication and inspection activities and follow-up,
  • Communicate and collaborate with other members of the Fuel Systems LNG group with detailed documentation of project progress

The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering plus a minimum of three years experience with precision component and or product design in high-pressure gas, cryogenics, hydraulics, or automotive fuel systems and their components. You will also have experience in a team or product group where vehicle design was a key component. You will have the ability to direct and lead engineering resources to deliver product specs per plan and on budget. Successful candidates will have experience with QS 9000 and ISO/TS 16949 including working knowledge of APQP and PPAP.
Candidates must have hands-on experience with manufacturing design and assembly and must be proficient in 3-D modeling software applications specifically, PRO-Engineer, modeling tools for FEA (ANSYS), hydraulic system design, thermodynamic modeling, and fluid dynamic modeling. You will also have a demonstrated capability to understand and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. You will have strong problem solving abilities, the ability to share knowledge through training others and exceptional communications skills. Extended travel to China, Europe, and throughout North America will be required.

Product Safety Manager future position · Vancouver, BC, Canada
Westport Innovations is seeking a Product Safety Manager to join our team of engineering professionals in our Vancouver offices. This individual will serve as a product safety subject matter expert who will provide guidance to our engineering teams in all aspects of international standards compliance and industry best practices in design, testing, certification, and field incident resolution with the goal of designing and producing, safe and innovative products.

Some additional responsibilities are:
  • Provide direction and leadership on company and group product introduction initiatives relating to product safety.
  • Support design teams with design certification that meet defined safety risk levels.
  • Provide input to product development teams in FMEA processes, design reviews FIRG and PIRG classifications.
  • Contribute to product management and business decisions with respect to safety and liability issues
  • Manage company hazard analysis processes and documentation
  • Develop and manage hazard analysis, recall evaluation and implementation processes
  • Develop and lead product safety and liability audits.
Candidates will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent with 10 years experience in product safety within the automotive, transportation or similar industry. In addition you will:

  • Have an established track record as a product safety expert with sound decision making abilities
  • Have a background in legal issues related to product safety
  • Be strongly principled and ethical in your decisions
  • Be detail and process oriented and be capable of managing multiple priorities
  • Demonstrate ability to interpret safety requirements in accordance with regulatory standards
  • Have the ability to effectively communicate product requirements to cross-functional engineering teams and management.

Role Responsibilities
• Priority focus will be CWI engine sales in North America 
        o Identification of product opportunities that meet current engine specifications 
        o Meet annual unit plan - close business through sales channels or directly
        o Develop/manage key sales cycles personally
        o Maintain pricing targets to support CWI margin plans

• Takes a project management approach to customer issues
        o Works with internal teams to identify root cause

        o Identify large customers to pull orders through OEM/DOEM’s

• Ensures support in place to meet after sale customer requirements
        o Ensure maintenance and service training in place for mechanical personnel as orders dictate
        o Continue to work with Cummins to resolve legacy product issues

• Develops/expands sales channel
        o Support development of sales tool kits
        o Ensure all sales channels are trained and effective; 
                Cummins Distributors, Fueling partners, OEM’s/DOEM’s and branches, industry partners, Cummins factory sales teams

• Investor Relations
        o Provide press release timing to Westport IR

Requirements
