Liquefied natural gas shows potential as a freight locomotive fuel

EIA projects that liquefied natural gas (LNG) will play an increasing role in powering freight locomotives in coming years. Continued growth in domestic natural gas production and substantially lower natural gas prices compared to crude oil prices could result in significant cost savings for locomotives that use LNG as a fuel source, according to EIA's Annual Energy Outlook 2014 (AEO2014).

McDonalds trucks run on natural gas in Portugal

HAVI Logistics, the company that carries food to McDonalds and Ikea or popcorn to Zon Lusomundo theaters, will use natural gas instead of diesel in heavy goods vehicles. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has certified model-year 2014 Westport WiNG Ford F-150 pickup trucks with dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) systems and the 3.7-liter Ford engine. These vehicles come equipped with either 17 GGE or 23 GGE of on-board CNG storage.

Oklahoma City gets its first LNG station

Oklahoma City now has a stop on America’s Natural Gas Highway, which is being built by Boone Pickens-backed Clean Energy. The California-based company is working to establish a network of fueling stations for high volume users like fleet operators, transit vehicles or refuse trucks. “The network is at the point right now where you can go coast to coast, border to border,” spokesman Patric Rayburn said Tuesday.
